To calculate the amount of decking board you require for your project simply times the length and the width of the area in metres i.e. 4.8 x 3.2 = 15.36 m2 and mutiply this figure by 8, i.e. 15.36 x 8 = 122.88 and round up to nearest whole number, i.e. 123. For this project you would therefore require 123 linear meres of decking (This is for 125mm wide decking).
Joists to calculate the amount of joists required simply simply times the length and the width of the area in metres i.e. 4.8 x 3.2 = 15.36 m2 and mutiply this figure by 6, i.e. 15.36 x 6 = 92.16 and round up to the nearest whole number. For this project you would require 93 linear metres of joists. This figure will allow for perimetres and nogins.
